D2.1 Design principles and test result of energy harvesting building envelope elements

This deliverable aims to present the methodology that allowed the optimisations, the design principles and test results for the three envelope elements developed in the context of the EXCESS project. The principles will be implemented as much as possible in the Finnish, Belgium and Austrian pilots.

- the balcony element with embedded PVT,

- the improved PVT panel for an innovative multisource ground source heat pump and

- the active facade integrating heat and electrical distribution.

The optimisations and test have shown that the PVT balcony is not feasible because of fire restriction in the Finnish building code. The PVT has however been improved and the optimisation (backbar simplification, quick fit, bill of materials compliant with latest solar norms) will contribute to an easier integration into the roof. The PVT has also been optimised to accept a higher pressure for the heat pump coupling. The necessity to separate both PVT and borehole circuits to optimise the costand the performance of the system has been demonstrated. Regarding the multifunctional facade the module development made it possible to increase the degree of prefabrication during installation considerably. The thermal performance showed very promising results.
